About Swaton Parish Council

Swaton Church

Swaton is an historic village with history back to the Romans, Oliver Cromwell and the English Civil War. Its Norman church rises above the large Chesnut and Sycamores trees that line the High Street yet it's Parish Council is one of the newest in the Country and the first new Parish Council in Lincolnshire since 1974.

Launched in 2002 following Swaton's childrens cries for a village park, the new Parish Council had a busy first couple of years; achieving grants for two bus shelters, agreement for a mains sewage scheme to be installed, traffic calming initiatives within the village and on the A52, repairs to footpaths, footpath lighting and the re-instatement of a Polling Station in the village.

When the first proper elections were carried out, Gail Deptford and Barry Jefferies who had stepped in to lead the charge as Chairwoman & Secretary resigned after two years hard work so as to enable other duly elected Councillors to bring their diverse knowledge and skills to new projects which included the building of a new village hall in 2005.

Today’s Council - guided by it's Accredited Clerk, Mrs Shelagh McIntyre - has achieved the status of ‘Quality Council’ to further enhance its reputation as a Council that makes things happen !
